Auckland Card Show 2024 - First Edition

Industry: Trading Card & Collectibles Events
Location: Barfoot & Thompson Stadium, Auckland

    Brief

The Auckland Card Show was a one-day event held at Barfoot & Thompson Stadium, showcasing and dealing in Trading Card Games and related merchandise. The event featured approximately 160 vendor tables, a separate hall for games, and a main stage for presentations, card unboxings, and panel discussions.

With around 3,000 attendees in the main hall throughout the day, the event had 13 sponsors, including Vidcom as a key sponsor. As the first event of its kind on this scale in New Zealand, budget constraints were a challenge, but organisers recognised the necessity of live streaming to ensure the event’s success and continued growth.

Vidcom provided a comprehensive live streaming solution using multiple robotic cameras, collated through a high-spec streaming PC, and streamed directly to the Auckland Card Show’s YouTube channel.

    Key technical setups included:

  • A dedicated overhead camera to provide a clear view of the presenter’s table.
  • Rigging a square truss to the stadium’s balcony to ensure proper camera positioning above the media wall.
  • Additional screen placement at the front of the stage to enhance visibility for the live audience.
  • Solution

Vidcom’s technical team executed a seamless live-streaming setup, ensuring high-quality production and uninterrupted coverage throughout the event.

    The solution included:

    • Multi-camera setup – Robotic cameras strategically placed for optimal coverage.
    • Overhead camera installation – Custom rigging to provide a top-down view of unboxings and showcases.
    • Stage screen setup – Enhancing presenter visibility for both in-person attendees and online viewers.
    • Real-time YouTube streaming – Enabling global audience engagement and industry exposure.

    Outcome

    • Established an ongoing relationship with the Auckland Card Show team.
    • The Auckland Card Show has recently caught the attention of a prominent figure in the business world, who has shown interest in the event and its potential.
    • Led to the expansion of the Auckland Card Show 2025 into a larger venue, with more sponsors and multiple live-streamed tournaments.
    • Created the potential for new events, accross New Zealand and Australia.
